Kepak Drives Sustainability Progress Through Regenerative Agriculture Initiatives

As part of Meat Industry Ireland’s (MII) newly launched video series on sustainability, Kepak is proud to showcase the significant strides we’re making in reducing agricultural emissions and enhancing biodiversity through regenerative agriculture. This series, which features leading beef processors including Kepak, highlights the key sustainability initiatives that are helping the sector achieve the ambitious goal of reducing emissions by 25% by 2030.

Kepak’s Contribution

At Kepak, we are committed to setting new benchmarks for sustainable beef production. We are the first Irish beef processor to fully embrace the SAI Platform’s Global Regenerating Together Framework, reflecting our dedication to nature-positive practices. Our efforts, which focus on soil health, biodiversity, and water quality, are closely monitored at our demonstration farm in Meath, where we collaborate with farmers to implement regenerative practices that are already showing promising results.

Key Initiatives:

Implementing regenerative agriculture practices to protect and enhance biodiversity while reducing carbon emissions.

Developing practical measures for water conservation and improving soil health to foster more resilient agricultural ecosystems.

Leading by example at our Meath Research and Development farm, where we gather critical data to guide industry-wide sustainability efforts and provide knowledge transfer opportunities to our supplier base.

Rebecca Thompson, Group Sustainability Manager at Kepak, said: “We’re proud to be the first Irish beef processor to fully integrate a global framework for regenerative agriculture. Our goal is to support farmers in adopting these methods, not only to reduce emissions but also to enhance biodiversity and improve water quality. Our innovative incentive programs ensure that farmers directly benefit from sustainable practices, making progress both environmentally and economically.”

We’re thrilled to be part of this collaborative effort within the Irish beef sector to drive real, measurable change for the future of farming. Watch our video, “The Power of Regeneration,” to learn more about how we’re working #ForwardTogetherWithEveryStep towards a more sustainable future.

More about Meat Industry Ireland
Since 2015, MII members have invested more than €200 million in sustainability initiatives at processing and farm level. This includes programmes to support healthier animals and the development and funding of best-practice demonstration farms. The beef sector remains a mainstay in the country’s rural communities with 90,000 farm families and 25,000 jobs supported. It is estimated that the sector generated almost €7 billion for the wider Irish rural economy in 2023. MII and its members are committed to accelerating sustainability progress and working towards the targets outlined in the National Climate Action Plan.
